Nepal Flash Floods Kill at Least 270, More Than 1,000 Still Missing
A catastrophic flash flood struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district near the China border after a glacial collapse triggered a massive surge of water, mud and rock. At least 270 people have been confirmed dead, while more than 1,000 remain missing, according to reports on August 27.
A devastating flash flood has caused widespread destruction along the Nepal–China border, sweeping through settlements and damaging roads, bridges and other infrastructure. The disaster followed a sudden collapse of ice and rock in the Himalayan region. Rescue teams involving Nepalese and Chinese authorities are continuing search-and-rescue operations, but difficult terrain and continuing rainfall are complicating the efforts.
