'Drishyam' in Real Life: Son Travels 2,000 Km to Kill Father Over Land Dispute, Arrested After One Fatal Mistake

SAMASTIPUR/Kalinga Darpan: Drawing dark inspiration from the cinematic world, a man allegedly plotted the perfect murder to eliminate his father over an escalating land dispute, only to be outsmarted by a momentary lapse in his own plan.

The accused, residing in Surat, Gujarat, traveled approximately 2,000 kilometers to his hometown in Samastipur, Bihar, to commit the crime. According to police officials, the suspect meticulously designed his cross-country journey to leave no digital footprint. Heavily influenced by the movie Drishyam, he switched off his primary mobile phone well in advance to prevent law enforcement from tracing his location via cellular towers, attempting to establish an airtight alibi that he had never left Gujarat.

Upon reaching Samastipur, the accused successfully executed the murder of his father before fleeing the jurisdiction.

However, the seemingly foolproof plan unraveled due to a single misstep. While attempting to make his getaway, the accused placed a call to his wife from the Patori railway station in Bihar. This brief communication instantly pinged on the police's radar, providing investigators with the critical digital evidence needed to destroy his carefully crafted alibi.

Following the digital trail left by the station call, the Samastipur police launched a coordinated tracking operation. The digital footprint confirmed his presence at the scene of the crime and traced his subsequent return journey to Gujarat. Working in tandem with local authorities, police successfully apprehended the accused in Surat, bringing an end to the cinematic evasion attempt.

The accused is currently in police custody and is being interrogated further regarding the specifics of the land dispute and the procurement of any weapons used in the crime.
