Ghasipura Police Crack Down on Sand Smuggling; Seize Four Heavy Trucks on NH-20

GHASIPURA / ANANDAPUR, KALINGA DARPAN — In a decisive move against illegal sand smuggling operations in the region, the Ghasipura Police successfully intercepted and seized four heavy dump trucks (Hywas) loaded with illegally mined sand late last night. The major interception took place along National Highway 20 (NH-20).

Acting on intensified night patrolling protocols and ground vigilance, law enforcement officials halted the four heavy vehicles for inspection. Upon demanding the necessary transit passes and valid authorization for the transportation of the sand, the operators failed to produce any legal documentation, confirming the transport was unauthorized and illegal.

Confirming the development, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Anandapur stated that authorities immediately confiscated all four vehicles involved in the illicit transit. Following the seizure, the Ghasipura police registered four separate cases against those involved under the relevant sections of the law pertaining to the theft and unauthorized transportation of minor minerals.

This recent seizure highlights the strict, ongoing efforts of the local police and administration to curb rampant illegal sand smuggling, which causes substantial losses to the state exchequer and harms the local environment.

Further investigations are currently underway to trace the extraction source of the illegally mined sand and to identify the larger syndicates orchestrating this racket. Authorities have issued a stern warning that stringent, continuous action will be taken against anyone found involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of natural resources in the district.
